Valley knew it had some room to maneuver entering Wednesday's Day 2 of the Class 1A boys' golf state meet.

The Buffaloes needed 16 more strokes to get around Provo's East Bay Golf Course in the second round than it did in the opening round, but they still cruised to a 32-shot victory over second-place Rich to claim the team title. It was Valley's third consecutive state team title.

Isaac Stout shot a 77-73—150 to earn medalist honors after taking sixth last year. Teammate Cobe Reck, the two-time reigning state champion, finished second with a 76-81—157.

Rich's Nick Jarman broke up the Valley sweep by taking third with a 78-81—159, while Valley's Casey Reck was fourth with an 81-84—165.

Class 1A girls' state meet

Bryce Valley edged Rich by one point to win the 1A girls' golf team title in the one-round tournament at East Bay Golf Course.

The Mustangs finished with 168 points to 167 for second-place Rich. The tournament used the Stableford scoring system, where the higher score wins.

Manila's Sylvie Anderson scored a 65 to win medalist honors, besting Altamont's Cambry Richins by three points. Intermountain Christian's Jessica Emfinger was third with a 61.

Class 3A girls' state meet

Dixie's Gracie Richins enjoyed a two-point lead over Desert Hills' Tori Thomas after the opening round of the 3A girls' state tournament at Sleepy Ridge Golf Course in Orem.

Park City's Saylor Rabe and Snow Canyon's Lexi Hamel both sit a point behind Thomas.

Desert Hills grabbed the team lead with a 308, while Park City lurked in second at 299.

The final round is scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m. Thursday.
