Longtime Utah high school football coach Rick Bojak, who led Jordan to the state title game in 1981 and 1983, died Friday after battling Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 66.

Bojak finished with a record of 107-94 during his 19-year career as a football coach. He led Jordan to a 46-23 record from 1980 to 1985 before taking over at West Jordan from 1989 to 1996. He finished his coaching career at Riverton from 1999 to 2003.

Bojak was born Feb. 16, 1951 and grew up in Chicago. He played middle linebacker and running back in college, first at Walla Walla Community College then Weber State. He was inducted into the Northwest Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2001.

Bojak was named the Utah State Teacher of the Year in 1995.

Viewings will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Funeral Home, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South) and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the West Jordan Mountain View Stake Center, 2901 West 9000 South, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., according his obituary in The Tribune.
