It took a while.

A long while.

But not a record-setting while.

Timpanogos and Skyridge needed five overtimes to decide their boys' basketball game Tuesday night. Timpanogos won it when Justin Beus took a pass from Matt Norman in the right corner then drove in for a layup just before time expired for the 84-82 win.

The five overtimes tied for the third-longest game in state history, according to the Utah High School Activities Association's records book. Two boys' basketball games have gone six overtimes — Wendover beat Owyhee, Nev., 76-74 on Nov. 30, 1990, and Canyon View downed Ben Lomond 91-86 on Dec. 1, 2006.

Skyridge, a first-year school, was fighting for its playoff life. The loss dropped the Falcons to 3-7 in the region, a game behind three teams tied for fourth place in Region 7. Check out Trevor Phibbs' story about the Falcons and coach Jeff Gardner for more on Skyridge.

Timpanogos maintained a share of the region lead by improving to 9-1. The Timberwolves are tied with Timpview for frst place.
