Brighton's Dani Barton was named Gatorade Utah Volleyball Player of the Year after helping to lead the Bengals to the Class 5A state semifinals.

Barton also was honored as The Tribune Player of the Year this season.

The 6-foot University of Utah signee finished with 418 kills, 268 digs, 71 blocks and 36 aces for the Bengals.

"Dani Barton is the next big thing to come out of Utah," Taylorsville coach Clint Barnes said in a release. "She's got great speed and agility, and her hitting and blocking are both above average. She's a very talented indoor player, as well as a great beach player, and she's willing to make her peers better any way she can."
