This is the eighth installment of the statewide top 25, and Bingham has now owned the top spot for 18 consecutive weeks dating back to last year. The rankings are only published during the regular season because in the postseason, nothing else matters but surviving and advancing — and, well, it can be argued rankings never really matter, but they're fun anyway.

The Miners are also ranked No. 19 nationally by MaxPreps this week, and East, which has been ranked second in the statewide top 25 all season, checked in at No. 24 in MaxPreps' rankings.

No. 14 Sky View (+3), No. 19 Dixie (+3), No. 20 Lehi (+3), No. 8 Jordan (+2), No. 12 Highland (+2) and No. 23 Kearns (+2) all experienced rises of two or more spots from last week, while No. 24 Stansbury entered the rankings for the first time this season. No. 25 Corner Canyon is back again, as the Chargers continue to navigate an up-and-down season.

No. 17 Herriman suffered the steepest drop, falling eight spots, after getting shutout and upset by Pleasant Grove. No. 22 Desert Hills plummeted seven spaces after its loss against Dixie, and No. 9 American Fork dropped four spots after a lackluster performance against Lone Peak.

There are five ranked-ranked games in Week 8:

No. 12 Highland at No. 13 Davis, Thursday

No. 3 Lone Peak at No. 20 Lehi

Classification power rankings:

CLASS 5A

1. Bingham (7-0) — Had no problem putting away Cottonwood.

2. Lone Peak (6-1) — Solidified No. 2 ranking behind a suffocating defensive attack against rival American Fork.

3. Roy (5-1) — Shutout Mountain Crest with a steady performance throughout all four quarters.

4. Jordan (5-1) — The Diggers are back in the rankings after they proved they could answer the bell defensively in a huge win against West Jordan.

5. American Fork (5-2) — Despite the letdown performance against Lone Peak, the Cavemen are still one of the top teams in the class.

CLASS 4A

1. East (7-0) — The Leopards are scoring 50 points per game almost routinely.

2. Alta (7-0) — Survived a wide game against Skyridge on Thursday.

3. Timpview (6-1) — Had no problem whatsoever with Timpanogos.

4. Springville (7-0) — The Red Devils have a very legitimate opportunity to finish the regular season undefeated for the second straight year.

5. Olympus (6-1) — The Titans are far and away the best team in Region 6.

CLASS 3AA

1. Dixie (4-3) — Logan won the state title in the 3AA classification after losing against higher-enrollment programs in the preseason. Will Dixie follow the same path? Beating Desert Hills was a great start.

2. Desert Hills (5-2) — Lost on the road against an extremely talented Dixie team.

3. Stansbury (6-1) — The Stallions might be the surprise team in the 3AA classification this year, especially after going on the road and beating Ridgeline.

4. Tooele (6-1) — Handled Ben Lomond, which is an underrated team this year.

5. Pine View (6-1) — Rebounded after dismantling loss against Dixie with two straight wins. Can make a statement with a win at Desert Hills on Friday.

CLASS 3A

1. Morgan (5-2) — Routed Carbon, as was expected.

2. Juan Diego (3-3) — Returned to .500 with a win against Grantsville.

3. Juab (4-3) — Blew open a relatively close game against Canyon View in the third quarter.

4. Delta (4-3) — The Rabbits now have quality wins against North Sanpete and Manti.

5. North Sanpete (3-3) — After consecutive losses, the Hawks got back on track with a win against Richfield. Huge test now awaits against Juab.

CLASS 2A

1. San Juan (6-1) — After several weeks looking up, the Broncos are back atop the 2A classification.

2. Beaver (6-1) — The Beavers dropped 76 points on North Sevier.

3. Summit Academy (6-1) — The Bears claimed arguably the biggest win in school history with an upset against South Summit.

4. South Summit (6-1) — The Wildcats' 22-game winning streak in the regular season was snapped in the loss to Summit Academy.

5. Enterprise (6-1) — The Wolves continue to enjoy the best season in school history.

CLASS 1A

1. Kanab (6-1) — In a showdown against Milford, the Cowboys illustrated exactly how good they really are with a convincing win.

2. Duchesne (5-1) — Overcame a deficit to knock off Layton Christian on the road.

3. Diamond Ranch (3-2) — Don't look now, but the defending champs are starting to find a rhythm.

4. Layton Christian (5-2) — Despite the loss, the Eagles rose in the rankings because of how well they played against Duchesne.

5. Milford (4-2) — The Tigers remain in the rankings after losing to top-ranked Kanab.
