BASEBALL

Class 5A

1. Cottonwood (17-3) — Easily the top team in the state right now. This team is dangerous throughout the entire lineup and has a ridiculous deep bullpen for a high school program.

2. American Fork (17-5) — Was there a hotter team in the month of April than American Fork? Probably not.

3. Lone Peak (12-6) — The Knights were no match for American Fork, and after getting swept, this is where the season gets dangerous with series against Pleasant Grove and Lehi remaining. The state will see if Lone Peak is real or not.

4. Davis (13-4) — Winners of eight straight games, the Darts are rolling through Region 2.

5. Jordan (12-7) — The Beetdiggers are reeling, and, quite frankly, lucky to still be ranked. They recovered after losing three straight games, two against Bingham, with a dominating performance in the third game against the Miners. Was that enough to get them back on track?

Class 4A

1. Salem Hills (19-1) — Starved off a motivated Maple Mountain program to take complete control of Region 8.

2. Woods Cross (17-5) — The Wildcats are taking advantage of a weak region, no question, but they're entering state record territory in offensive run production.

3. Orem (17-2) — The Tigers announced their presence to the state in a big way. Sweeping Timpanogos was no small task.

4. Murray (17-1) — After a surprising setback against Hillcrest — their first of the season — the Spartans recovered with two straight wins to clinch the Region 6 title.

5. Timpanogos (15-3) — Extremely disappointing week for the Timberwolves, but this team is still built for the postseason.

Class 3A

1. Juan Diego (14-4) — The Eagle are finally starting to live up to preseason expectations. They've now won eight consecutive games.

2. Desert Hills (11-9) — The Thunder stand alone at the top of the best baseball region in the classification and they've been consistently great against in-state opponents.

3. Canyon View (14-4) — The Falcons are unscathed in Region 12 play. Is that because this team is truly a force to be reckoned with, or is the overall talent in the region subpar?

4. Pine View (13-6) — After losing the first game of the series against Dixie, the Panthers are entering dangerous territory.

5. Stansbury (13-5) — Not able to play any games last week, the Stallions return to play against Park City on Monday.

Class 2A

1. North Sevier (18-2) — After wrapping up a two-game sweep against Gunnison to clinch the 2A East title, the Wolves close the season against Manti.

2. Grand (17-3) — The Devils will finish one game behind North Sevier in the region standings and the statewide rankings.

3. South Sevier (17-2) — The Rams' regular season comes a close against North Sanpete this week.

4. Enterprise (16-5) — Might be the scariest team in the classification right now. The Wolves can paint runs on the board in a hurry.

5. Summit Academy (14-2) — The Bears conclude their season at Rockwell on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

Class 5A

1. Lehi (19-6) — Chalk up two more wins for the Pioneers.

2. Riverton (13-4) — The Wolves are riding a four-game winning streak.

3. Syracuse (18-2) — The Titans are clinging to the No. 1 seed in Region 2 after winning 11 straight games.

4. West (16-3) — The Panthers blasted Herriman and have scored 44 runs in three games after a disappointing performance against Syracuse.

5. Bingham (13-7) — The Miners have lost two of three and are teetering on the edge of being ranked.

Class 4A

1. Spanish Fork (20-3) — Undefeated in Region 8 and handling business within their own classification, the Dons have maintained the top spot the entire season.

2. Alta (13-1) — Consecutive wins against Bear River and Bountiful should not be taken lightly.

3. Box Elder (17-3) — Lost to Layton, which is rather surprising even though the Lancers play in a higher classification, but nonetheless, it doesn't influence the Region 5 standings.

4. Murray (13-4) — The Spartans are pulling away in Region 6.

5. Bountiful (13-5) — After two straight losses, the Braves are fortunate to be included in the rankings.

Class 3A

1. Juab (16-1) — The Wasps have won 16 straight and have the best player in the classification.

2. Stansbury (15-5) — Stallions own the top spot in the toughest softball region in the class. This program is never to be trifled with.

3. Bear River (15-3) — After two-game slide, the Bears have won three straight.

4. Desert Hills (21-4) — Massive game against Snow Canyon is scheduled for Tuesday.

5. Snow Canyon (12-2) — Pushing Desert Hills in the Region 9 race.

Class 2A

1. Manti (17-3) — The Templars are rolling with 12 straight wins.

2. Enterprise (21-5) — The winning streak hit double digits for the Wolves, with 10 consecutive victories.

3. Duchesne (15-3) — Eagles are well in control of the 2A North with two games remaining.

4. South Summit (18-5) — The Wildcats rebounded with three straight wins after getting embarrassed by Manti.

5. Grand (14-5) — The Devils' regular season ends against Emery this week.

BOYS' SOCCER

Class 5A

1. Bingham (11-0) — Perfection, without ties, is difficult to accomplish in soccer.

2. Brighton (10-2-1) — The Bengals appear to be reinvigorated, and that's scary news for the rest of the classification.

3. American Fork (9-3-1) — The Cavemen are by their lonesome atop Region 4.

4. Lone Peak (10-3) — After losing two of the past four games, is there cause for concern for the Knights?

5. Sky View (10-1-1) — The Bobcats have now won nine straight games.

Class 4A

1. Provo (10-1-1) – Huge win at Alta was the third straight for the Bulldogs.

2. Maple Mountain (11-1) — Not only have the Eagles won eight consecutive outings, they're doing it in dominating fashion.

3. Murray (10-1-2) — The Spartans followed up on their first loss of the year against Skyline with a shutout win against Hillcrest.

4. Mountain View (9-3-2) — Massive implications are on the line in the Bruins upcoming game against Provo on Tuesday.

5. Wasatch (9-1-3) — Several teams deserving of the fifth ranking, including either East or Ogden, but the Wasps get the honor.

Class 3A

1. Juan Diego (14-0) — The Eagle wrapped up the season with a perfect record.

2. Snow Canyon (12-4-1) — The Warriors received their first region loss in a bizarre situation: They were trailing 1-0 in a pivotal game against Dixie when the game was called with more than 15 minutes remaining from inclement weather. Because they technically didn't actually lose, they stay ranked No. 2.

3. Dixie (11-3-1) — See Snow Canyon explanation above.

4. Desert Hills (11-4) — Fourth in the state, third in region.

5. Canyon View (11-4-1) — The Falcons closed the season with four straight wins.

Class 2A

1. American Leadership (11-0-2) — The defending champs close the season against Parowan.

2. South Summit (12-1-1) — The Wildcats wrapped up the season on a five-game winning streak.

3. Millard (10-2-1) — Finished second in region behind American Leadership.

4. Manti (11-2-1) — Clinched the 2A Central title with eight straight wins.

5. Waterford (11-3-1) — The Ravens enter the postseason as a legitimate title contender.
