BASEBALL

Class 5A

1. Cottonwood (13-3) — The Colts are 12-0 against Utah-based opponents. In those games, they've outscored their opponents 101-49.

2. Lone Peak (12-3) — After a slow start to the season, which included a one-run loss against Cottonwood, the Knights have won 11 straight.

3. Pleasant Grove (11-4) — The Vikings are as talented as any team in the state, but they've lost two of the past five games, including a head-scratching loss to Riverton.

4. Jordan (11-5) — The Beetdiggers blew their chance to move up in the rankings with a loss against West Jordan. They dropped from No. 3 to No. 4 instead.

5. American Fork (14-5) — Six game winning streak snapped in the final game of the Lehi series, but the Cavemen have looked impressive in the month of April.

Class 4A

1. Salem Hills (18-1) — Two-game series with Maple Mountain this week could be the final test of the regular season for the Skyhawks.

2. Timpanogos (15-0) — Huge opportunity to take control of Region 7, with a three-game series this week against Orem.

3. Woods Cross (14-5) — The Wildcats, who lead the state in scoring, have won nine straight games in which they outscored their opponents 134-12. It would be a difficult task to find a hotter team right now.

4. Murray (15-0) — The Spartans dropped one spot despite an undefeated record. It was impossible not to move up Woods Cross considering what they've done on the field.

5. Orem (14-2) — Winners of 13 consecutive games, the Tigers control their own destiny this week. Take the series against Timpanogos and claim sole custody of first place in Region 7. Collectively, the two programs have won 28 straight.

Class 3A

1. Pine View (13-5) — The Panthers had no problem with Cedar. Will Dixie, which has been reeling of late, provide a challenge in the upcoming two-game series?

2. Canyon View (12-4) — After their bye-week, the Falcons return to action against Juab.

3. Juan Diego (11-4) — Five straight wins for the Eagle sets up an intriguing Region 11 series against Logan.

4. Stansbury (13-5) — Dominated crosstown rival Grantsville, which was ranked No. 3 in the classification at the time, to move into the rankings.

5. Desert Hills (10-9) — The record is not indicative of the talent residing in the Thunder's lineup. Most of the losses occurred against higher-enrollment programs.

Class 2A

1. North Sevier (16-2) — Difficult three-game stretch awaits for the Wolves, who are scheduled to play two games against a dangerous Gunnison club and defending champion Manti to close the regular season.

2. Grand (14-3) — The Devils are ranked second in the classification, but they're currently in third place in the 2A East region. That could potentially change dependent on how the North Sevier-Gunnison series plays out.

3. South Sevier (16-2) — The Rams locked up the 2A Central region title, and end the regular season with two games against Class 3A's North Sanpete.

4. Enterprise (14-5) — The Wolves have the best offense in the classification based on run production.

5. Summit Academy (12-2) — The Bears, who have won six straight, are enjoying one of the best seasons in the the short history of the school.

5. Syracuse (16-2) — After winning nine straight games, including a statement 12-2 victory against previously ranked West, the Titans are back in the rankings.

Class 4A

1. Spanish Fork (19-3) — The Dons won't be punished for playing Lehi and losing. Until they're defeated within their own classification, they own the top spot.

2. Box Elder — The Bees' 15-game winning streak came to its conclusion in a one-run loss against Fremont, but similar to Spanish Fork, they maintained their spot in the rankings.

3. Maple Mountain (12-5) — Recovered nicely from close loss against Spanish Fork with a thorough victory against Payson.

4. Bountiful (13-3) — After difficult stretch, the Braves appear to have regained their footing. Impending showdown against Alta, which is teetering on the edge of the rankings, will determine if Bountiful is legitimate or not.

5. Murray (12-4) — The Spartans have won eight straight contests, and now have a two-game lead in Region 6.

Class 3A

1. Juab (16-1) — There is absolutely no question the Wasps deserve the No. 1 ranking in the 3A classification after embarrassing Bingham.

2. Bear River (12-1) — The Bears aren't too far behind the Wasps, however, especially have knocking off Herriman.

3. Stansbury (14-5) — Consecutive wins against Tooele and Grantsville illustrates the Stallions are very much in contention for their fourth straight title.

4. Desert Hills (20-4) — The Thunder's 10-game winning streak snapped with a lopsided loss against Enterprise. Hard to interpret if it was a fluke performance or an exposure of weakness.

5. Snow Canyon (11-2) — The Warriors hardly provided a challenge against Uintah, but won't be punished for playing a program in a higher classification.

Class 2A

1. Manti (14-3) — The Templars leapfrogged South Summit for the top spot after winning the head-to-head matchup between the two programs. That's how all of this works: Win and be rewarded.

3. Duchesne (13-3) — The Eagles are enjoying a two-game cushion in the 2A North region ahead of Summit Academy.

4. South Summit (16-5) — After a lackluster performance in the biggest game of the season against Manti, the Wildcats plummeted from the No. 1 ranking.

5. Grand (14-5) — The Devils can close the regular season on a seven-game winning streak in the final game against last-place Emery.

BOYS' SOCCER

Class 5A

1. Bingham (10-0) — The Miners are clearly the top-ranked program, but from there, however, the 5A classification is a cluster.

2. Lone Peak (9-2) — The Knights remained in the No. 2 position despite the one-goal loss against region foe American Fork. The reasoning? Everyone else lost, too.

3. Brighton (8-2-1) — Two games back of Bingham in Region 3, but every program in Class 5A understands the Bengals are a huge threat in the postseason.

4. American Fork (7-3-1) — The Cavemen leaped into the rankings for the first time this season after playing Pleasant Grove to a stalemate and upsetting Lone Peak. Currently, AF is the only team without a league loss in Region 4.

5. Sky View (8-1-1) — The Bobcats enter the rankings for the first time this season, as well, with a seven-game winning streak and a two-game lead in Region 1.

Class 4A

1. Provo (9-1-1) — Two straight wins sets up a difficult road trip to Alta on Friday.

2. Maple Mountain (10-1) — The Golden Eagles have several reasons to be considered the No. 1 program in the classification, but for now, they remain No. 2.

4. East (9-1-1) — The Leopards have won six straight to take a commanding lead in Region 5.

5. Mountain View (7-3-2) — The Bruins are lucky to remain ranked after tying Orem. They need wins to stay next week.

Class 3A

1. Juan Diego (12-0) — Close the season against Region 11's second-place Logan on Friday for an opportunity to enter the playoffs with a perfect record.

2. Snow Canyon (11-3-1) — Cruising through Region 9, and that's no small accomplishment.

3. Dixie (9-3-1) — Three straight wins after the loss to Snow Canyon has the Flyers clearly in the No. 3 spot.

4. Desert Hills (10-4) — Undefeated against everyone but Snow Canyon and Dixie.

5. Canyon View (9-4-1) — Two-game lead in Region 12 entering the final stretch of the season.

Class 2A

1. American Leadership (9-0-2) — Delivered in the showdown against Millard to retain the top spot for another week.

2. South Summit (10-11-1) — The Wildcats can close the season with five straight wins if they can get past Rowland Hall and Layton Christian.

3. Millard (8-2-1) — The Eagles remained stagnant at No. 3 despite the loss to American Leadership. They kept it close against the best team in the classification, so they're obviously deserving.

Manti (9-2-1) — The Templars are pulling away in the 2A Central region.

5. Waterford (9-3-1) — The Ravens are very, very dangerous. This team very easily cold be under-ranked.
