BASEBALL

Class 5A

1. Cottonwood (10-3) — Any questions about the Colts after they swept Bingham? Still undefeated against Utah-based opponents.

2. Pleasant Grove (9-3) — The Vikings must take care of Riverton and Herriman before facing Lone Peak in early May.

3. Jordan (9-4) — The Beetdiggers dropped all three contests on their trip to the south, but they were in every game.

4. Mountain Crest (9-1) — After already winning their series against second-place Northridge, the Mustangs have an opportunity to establish significant ground in the Region 1 race.

5. Lone Peak (9-3) — Welcome back to the rankings, Knights. Undefeated in Region 4 and winners of eight straight games, this team is the real deal, as projected in the preseason.

Class 4A

1. Salem Hills (16-1) — Hard to argue against the Skyhawks. This is the best team in the state.

2. Timpanogos (12-0) — Big series looming against Orem, but first the Timberwolves face Corner Canyon, and the Chargers are off to the best start in program history.

3. Murray (12-0) — Chalk up another sweep for the Spartans. This team has shown an ability to score runs and stifle teams with strong pitching and defense. Very complete club right now.

4. Orem (11-2) — The Tigers have won 10 straight. Will they overlook Provo with Timpanogos on the horizon?

5. Woods Cross (11-5) — Wildcats swept Highland and Box Elder by a collective score of 90-6. Need any other statistics to show how hot this team is right now?

Class 3A

1. Pine View (11-5) — Despite surprising loss against Hurricane, the Panthers are back in the top spot in time for an interesting series against Cedar.

2. Canyon View (12-4) — Win games and be rewarded. That's how this works. Credit the Falcons for nine straight victories. Group that success with losses from teams previously ranked higher, and Canyon View has ascended to the No. 2 spot.

3. Grantsville (12-3) — The Cowboys rebounded in time for a huge showdown against crosstown rival Stansbury this week.

4. Juan Diego (8-4) — Split series with Bear River. The 3A classification has been exposed as pretty average thus far in the season.

5. Dixie (10-4) — Ranked No. 1 and get swept by a team with a losing record? The Flyers are lucky they're even ranked after that performance.

Class 2A

1. North Sevier (13-2) — Handled Monticello after tough series against Grand.

2. Grand (13-3) — The Devils have won four straight since losing the first game of two against North Sevier.

3. South Sevier (14-2) — The Rams have claimed five straight victories, with four games remaining in the regular season.

4. Enterprise (11-5) — The Wolves now have a two-game lead in the 2A South region.

5. Gunnison (11-5) — The Bulldogs are technically in second place in the 2A East, ahead of Grand, but they've yet to play North Sevier, so there's room to either climb or fall.

SOFTBALL

Class 5A

1. Lehi (14-6) — The Pioneers receive the benefit of the doubt as the two-time champions. They split games against their Region 4 counterparts, losing against Riverton and knocking off Herriman.

2. Riverton (11-4) — Similar to Lehi, the 'Wolves also split their critical games against Lehi (won) and Herriman (lost).

3. Bingham (10-5) — The Miners break up the Region 4 party atop the standings after stringing together an impressive winning streak, which included defeating Herriman.

4. Herriman (7-8) — The Mustangs still have yet to return to .500, but this team is a legitimate championship contender. Make no mistake about it.

5. West (10-2) — This week is massive for the Panthers, with a game against Davis, which is also undefeated in Region 2 play.

Class 4A

1. Spanish Fork (16-2) — Similar to Salem Hills in baseball, it's hard to argue against the Dons owning the No. 1 spot.

2. Box Elder (12-1) — Shutout previously undefeated Bountiful to take command of Region 5.

3. Maple Mountain (11-5) — Challenged Spanish Fork in a high-scoring contest, but fell two runs short.

4. Bountiful (11-3) — After suffering their first loss of the season against Box Elder, the Braves have stumbled to three losses in five games.

5. Murray (10-4) — Six straight wins has the Spartans ranked for the first time this season.

Class 3A

1. Juab (12-1) — The Wasps keep winning. The margin of victory for this team is starting to become comical.

2. Bear River (9-1) — Bears face Herriman on Tuesday. The Mustangs better be ready to play.

3. Stansbury (11-5) – Disappointing performance against Davis, but it's hard to blame the Stallions for falling short against a quality Class 5A program.

4. Desert Hills (19-3) — The Thunder have played the most games of any team in the classification by a long margin, and as the record shows: They're winning those games, too.

5. Snow Canyon (10-1) — Rebounded after first loss of the season with a pair of victories.

Class 2A

1. South Summit (15-4) — The Wildcats are forgiven for falling short against Pleasant Grove.

2. Manti (12-3) — Can take control of the 2A Central region and the No. 1 ranking with a win against South Summit on Tuesday.

3. Duchesne (9-2) — The Eagles are undefeated in the 2A North, but Summit Academy continues to push them.

4. Enterprise (14-5) — This team is starting to play fantastic softball.

5. Grand (12-5) — The Devils are now ahead two full games in region play.

BOYS' SOCCER

Class 5A

1. Bingham (8-0) — The Miners start to the season has been impressive to say the least. Through eight games, they have scored 21 more goals than they've allowed.

2. Lone Peak (8-1) — Tough Region 4 is pushing the Knights.

3. Viewmont (6-1-1) — Tied with Davis in a 1-1 draw.

4. Davis (7-1-1) — Can't jump the Vikings with a tie.

5. Brighton (6-2-1) — Two big wins for the Bengals to regain some momentum going forward.

Class 4A

1. Provo (7-1-1) — The Bulldogs routed Timpview, but tied with Orem. Regardless, they remain No. 1.

2. Maple Mountain (7-1) – Routed Wasatch to answer every question about this team. The Eagles are very dangerous.

3. Murray (7-0-2) —Statistically the best defensive team in the classification.

4. East (7-1-1) — After surprising loss against Box Elder, the Leopards have strung together four straight wins.

5. Mountain View (6-3-1) — Challenged Provo and shutout Alta to earn a spot in the power rankings for the first time this season.

Class 3A

1. Juan Diego (10-0) — The Eagle is dominating this classification right now.

2. Snow Canyon (9-3-1) — Shutout Dixie to take complete control of Region 9.

3. Dixie (7-3-1) — Hard to quantify losing to Snow Canyon, which was ranked No. 3 at the time, as an upset.

4. Desert Hills (10-2) — Two more wins for the Thunder, but they remain in third place in Region 9.

5. Canyon View (6-3-1) — No match for top-ranked Juan Diego, which is more an illustration of how talented JD is rather than a poor reflection on Canyon View.

Class 2A

1. American Leadership (7-0-2) — The Eagles aren't just winning games — they're embarrassing their opponents.

2. South Summit (8-1-1) — After a loss and a tie in consecutive outings, the Wildcats responded with a trouncing of rival North Summit.

3. Millard (7-1-1) — The Eagles are chasing American Leadership. The two play on Thursday.

4. Manti (8-2-1) — The Templars have a two game lead in the 2A Central.

5. Waterford (7-3-1) — Routing Layton Christian and playing South Summit even has the Ravens in the rankings.
