BASEBALL

Class 5A

1. Cottonwood (7-3) — The Colts dropped three games against California-based opponents, but they're entitled to the No. 1 ranking until they lose to an in-state program.

2. Pleasant Grove (7-2) — The Vikings took two of three games against Lehi, but illustrated this roster is not invincible in the process.

3. Jordan (8-1) — The Beetdiggers easily dispatched Copper Hills. This team has ability to score runs quickly and suffocate opponents with strong defense.

4. American Fork (8-2) — After four straight wins, the Cavemen are in the rankings for the first time this season. Their reward? An incredibly important Region 4 series against Pleasant Grove this week.

5. Bingham (6-3) — The Miners are back on track in time for an impending series against top-ranked Cottonwood on the horizon.

Class 4A

1. Salem Hills (12-1) — The Skyhawks had no problem with Uintah.

2. Timpanogos (9-0) — After the week off, the Timberwolves are back in action against Alta this week.

3. Murray (6-0) — The Spartans outscored Kearns, which was expected to contend for the region title this season, in three games by a collective score of 22-1.

4. Orem (7-2) — The slow start has not deterred the Tigers, who have quietly strung together six straight wins.

5. Maple Mountain (8-5) — Expect the Eagles to finally start playing to their potential after their two wins against Payson appeared to rejuvenate the program.

Class 3A

1. Dixie (8-2) — There is a new king atop the 3A classification for the first time this season. The Flyers have won six of seven, with the only loss against Timpanogos, to claim the top spot.

2. Pine View (7-4) — The demotion to No. 2 for the Panthers is more a reflection for lack of quality of wins opposed to the recent losses against California-based programs. Aside from the Pleasant Grove win, Pine View has been up-and-down.

3. Grantsville (9-2) — After two consecutive losses against Class 5A opponents, the Cowboys are looking to get back to their winning ways against Union.

4. Juan Diego (7-2) — The setback against Springville was ugly, but the Eagle followed suit with four straight wins.

5. Canyon View (6-4) — The win against Cedar did not go unnoticed. Now the Falcons need to continue winning to solidify their position in the rankings.

Class 2A

1. North Sevier (10-1) — The Wolves have a massive two-game series against Grand starting on Tuesday.

2. Grand (8-2) — The Red Devils can easily supplant North Sever with a couple of wins in head-to-head competition against the Wolves.

3. Gunnison (7-4) — Took one game against Grand to leapfrog one position in the rankings.

4. South Sevier (10-2) — Snapped two-game losing streak with dominating performance against South Summit.

5. Summit Academy (6-1) — The Bears make their first appearance in the rankings while in the midst of a four-game winning streak.

SOFTBALL

Class 5A

1. Riverton (9-3) — The Silverwolves are still undefeated against in-state competition.

2. Lehi (9-5) — Six-game winning streak snapped in surprising fashion against Stansbury.

3. Herriman (5-6) — The Mustangs can shake up the rankings and Region 4 standings with a win at Riverton on Tuesday.

4. Syracuse (7-1) — The Titans are scorching hot as winners of seven straight.

5. Bingham (5-5) — Another team swarmed with talent, but has underachieved thus far. The Miners could make a big run from this point forward.

Class 4A

1. Spanish Fork (10-1 ) — The Dons can make the argument as the best team in the state, let alone the top team in the 4A classification.

2. Box Elder (8-1) — The Bees have not lost since Opening Night.

3. Bountiful (7-0) — The Braves haven't played in what seems like weeks. Will the long time off hurt them?

4. Alta (6-0) — The Hawks are not only winning, they're blowing teams out.

5. Maple Mountain (8-4) — The Eagles knocked Springville out of the rankings and took the fifth spot for themselves.

Class 3A

1. Juab (11-1) — The Wasps are playing at an incredible pace.

2. Stansbury (6-3) — Big win against Lehi pushed the Stallions into the second spot.

3. Bear River (7-1) — The Bears were demoted because of Stansbury's win.

4. Snow Canyon (8-0) — The Warriors registered shutout wins against Dixie and Pine View.

5. Tooele (5-2) — Crosstown showdown against Stansbury is on the horizon on Tuesday.

Class 2A

1. South Summit (9-2) — Add two more wins to the Wildcats' torrid start.

2. Manti (7-3) — Challenged South Summit in a 16-13 loss, and with Gunnison stumbling, the Templars' performance helped them more than it hurt to lose.

3. Enterprise (7-2) — Held off Beaver in a one-run game.

4. Duchesne (5-2) — The Eagles return to the field this week against Layton Christian after a considerable time off.

5. Grand (6-2) — New to the rankings after sweeping Gunnison.

BOYS' SOCCER

Class 5A

1. Bingham (5-0) — The Miners ascended three spots into the No. 1 ranking after knocking off previously top-ranked Brighton on the road.

2. Lone Peak (6-1) — Back-to-back wins have the Knights back in the groove.

3. Viewmont (4-1) — The Vikings stay at No. 3 after the bye week.

4. Brighton (4-2-1) — Tough loss at home against the Miners dropped the Bengals three spots.

5. Davis (5-1) — The Darts return to the pitch to play Syracuse after a bye week.

Class 4A

1. Provo (6-1) — Four straight wins, including one against Alta, has the Bulldogs atop the classification.

2. Alta (3-2-1) — The loss against Provo was somewhat unexpected, but the Hawks are still in great shape.

3. Maple Mountain (6-1) — The Eagles outscored Spanish Fork and Salem Hills 16-0 in consecutive outings.

4. Murray (3-0-2) — The Spartans relinquished their first goal of the season, but they still managed to get past Skyline.

5. Wasatch (5-0-3) — Four straight wins has the Wasps ranked for the first time this season.

Class 3A

1. Juan Diego (6-0) — The Eagle has outscored six opponents by 20 goals this season.

2. Dixie (4-2-1) — One-goal win against Desert Hills is a huge confidence builder.

3. Snow Canyon (5-3-1) — The Warriors are pushing Dixie with three straight wins.

4. Desert Hills (7-1) — Hard to punish the Thunder for losing by one goal against the second-ranked team in the classification.

5. Canyon View (5-3-1) — The Falcons have been on fire the past four games offensively.

Class 2A

1. American Leadership (4-0-2) — This team can really score in a hurry.

2. South Summit (7-1) — The loss against Rowland Hall is hard to explain other than a complete letdown.

3. Delta (4-2) — Four straight wins for the Rabbits.

4. Layton Christian (5-1) — The Eagles can compete in different ways, as evidence by 2-0 win against Rowland Hall and a 10-6 win against North Summit.

5. Millard (4-1) — Lost against American Leadership, but followed up with an 8-0 win against Merit Academy.
