Westlake's Class of 2017 four-star safety Chaz Ah You is transferring to Timpview, The Tribune confirmed late Monday evening.

Ah You will register for classes at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and afterward will submit paperwork for athletic approval to the Utah High School Activities Association, according to his father, Jasen, whose daughter will also transfer.

"We got the approval from the district for him to enroll in class — it's open enrollment," Jasen said. "Today he had to go to Westlake and get a sign-off of every teacher, so they signed off on the transfer. Timpview had room for him to come in. It's pretty official."

The transfer is correlated with Jasen recently obtaining employment at Brigham Young University as the Director of Football Athletic Relations for the Cougars. He spent the past five seasons coaching at Westlake, including as the defensive coordinator last year, but was not retained by new coach Louis Wong after former coach Steve Clements resigned after the end of the 2015 season.

"Westlake has been nothing but awesome to us," Jasen said. "But as a father, I felt like this was the best move for my children. They're closer to me. They have every resource. No excuse now. They have every resource to excel."

Jasen Ah You, who is now renting property in Timpview boundaries for his new job, originally planned on joining the Timpview staff before he accepted his current position at BYU. The Ah You family had already started the transfer process and continued the paperwork to improve Chaz's ability to qualify academically for his preferred list of colleges.

"Chaz's biggest schools he's going for — we want to make sure he can qualify for Stanford, Cal, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt — those type of academic schools," said Jasen. "His grades have been slipping a little bit. Me, as a BYU employee now, he can get a student ID card and have access to the libraries that BYU has to offer academically."

Jasen said Chaz's grade declined from a 3.9 cumulative average to 3.7 this year.

"I think he had a harder courses. He had AP courses this year," Jasen said. "I think you can get real complacent and comfortable at a school where there's friends. That's what really scared me. Usually I'm at school everyday. Now that I'm at BYU, I'm not longer at Westlake."

Jasen Ah You also cited an article by The Tribune, which reported US News ranked Timpview as the No. 1 high school in Utah. He also said the Provo-based school offered a specific international relations and business course, which Chaz intends on studying in college and was not available at Westlake.

Chaz Ah You is a consensus four-star prospect by every major recruiting outlet, and is considered one of the top prospects in the nation. He currently has 22 official offers from BYU, California, Duke, Hawaii, Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Washington, Washington State and Wisconsin, according to Jasen.

Chaz was named to the All-Tribune team as a junior despite missing extended time from injury.

"He's just so versatile. He played quarterback, running back, receiver, safety, outside linebacker, returned punts and kicks — if we put him at left tackle, he probably would have been pretty good 'cause he's so stinkin' athletic," said Clements in the All-Tribune article. "I've been doing this a long time, and he's one of the top three high school players that I've ever been around."
