BASEBALL

Class 5A

1. Cottonwood (3-0) — Quality win against Lone Peak catapulted the Colts to the No. 1 spot.

2. Pleasant Grove (3-1) — The Vikings stumbled in a 1-0 decision against Pine View in the Red Rock Classic, but recovered nicely with a decisive win against American Fork.

3. Lone Peak (1-1) — Challenged top-ranked Cottonwood, but fell one run short of the upset.

4. Jordan (3-0) — The Beetdiggers have started the season with a torrid pace, as evident by the 10-0 shellacking they provided to American Fork.

5. Bingham (1-1) — Surprising setback on Opening Night, but the Miners quickly redeemed themselves with an impressive win against Spanish Fork.

Class 4A

1. Salem Hills (7-0) — Easily the best team in the classification right now. The Hawks are nothing short of a machine.

2. Timpanogos (5-0) — Timberwolves are loaded in the bullpen, and will be an absolute force this season.

3. Maple Mountain (5-3) — Separation between No. 2 and No. 3 is at least five runs, as the Golden Eagles were no match for Timpanogos.

4. Springville (5-1) — The hot start for the Devils shouldn't be overlooked. Springville was tied with Timpanogos before the 'Wolves posted six runs in the top of the seventh.

5. Bountiful (1-0) — The Braves don't have a huge sample size yet, but this team is constantly in contention.

Class 3A

1. Pine View (6-2) – After two consecutive losses, Pine View knocked off Pleasant Grove, which was ranked No. 18 nationally. That's enough to keep the defending champs atop the classification.

2. Grantsville (7-0) — Outlasted Maple Mountain, and already has four wins against programs in higher classifications.

3. Stansbury (6-1) — Knocked off Dixie in St. George. The Stallions can put up runs in a hurry.

4. Dixie (7-2) — After their shutout loss against Timpanogos, the Flyers have reeled off three straight wins.

5. Cedar (4-4) — The slow start is not indicative of the talent Cedar has holstered.

Class 2A

1. North Sevier (6-1) — Three wins against higher classification opponents, went neck-and-neck with Grantsville, and routed every foe from Class 2A thus far.

2. South Sevier (8-0) — The Rams are averaging more than 10 runs per game.

3. Grand (5-1) — Upcoming series against Richfield and Gunnison will prove if the Devils' strong start is legitimate or phony.

4. Gunnison (6-3) — The Bulldogs have won four straight and five of the last six outings.

5. Enterprise (5-5) — All five losses were against quality programs, including North Sevier, South Sevier and Gunnison.

SOFTBALL

Class 5A

1. Riverton (3-0) — Behind six seniors, the Silverwolves have outscored three opponents, 30-3, to start the season.

2. Lehi (5-4) — The two-time defending champions appear to be correcting the ship after struggling out-of-state.

3. Herriman (3-6) — The Mustangs' record is deceptive, with the six-game losing streak reflective of the quality of competition they've faced out-of-state.

4. Taylorsville (2-0) — Small sample size has been too impressive to ignore. The Warriors outscored Cyprus and Copper Hills, 32-1.

5. Fremont (4-2) — The 'Wolves rebounded with three straight wins after surprising setbacks in consecutive outings against Maple Mountain and Box Elder.

Class 4A

1. Spanish Fork (8-1) — The lone loss occurred against a California-based program. The Dons have handled every local team fairly easily.

2. Springville (8-2) — The Devils have won six straight games while already scoring 100 runs on the season.

3. Bountiful (6-0) — Balanced mixture of offense and defense has the Braves undefeated.

4. Box Elder (4-1) — After narrowly winning in three consecutive games, the Bees enjoyed a blowout decision against Grantsville.

5. Wasatch (9-2) — The Wasps have scored more runs than any program in the state, but suspect schedule is preventing a higher ranking.

Class 3A

1. Juab (8-1) — After stumbling out of the gates on Opening Night, the Wasps have slaughtered eight straight opponents.

2. Bear River (5-1) — The Bears challenged Spanish Fork, which is a strong indication of the skillset they're advertising.

3. Stansbury (5-3) — The three-time defending champs will be in the mix the entire season.

4. Snow Canyon (5-0) — As the lone representative from the south in the rankings, the Warriors already have registered wins against three Class 5A foes.

5. Tooele (4-2) — The Buffaloes are the only team to top Juab this season.

Class 2A

1. South Summit (8-2) — The Wildcats have won six straight, including a shootout against Wasatch.

2. Gunnison (7-2) — Despite the head-to-head win against South Summit, Gunnison checks in at No. 2.

3. Enterprise (5-1) — Only loss is against Class 4A's Wasatch.

4. Manti (4-2) — The Templars only two losses were against Tooele and Salem Hills, two programs in higher classifications.

5. Duchesne (5-2) — The Eagles will look to recover against North Summit after deflating loss against Pine View.

BOYS' SOCCER

Class 5A

1. Lone Peak (4-0) — The Knights have scored five goals three times, and also won at Alta, which is no small task.

2. Brighton (4-0-1) — After registering a tie on Opening Night, the Bengals have strung together four straight wins.

3. Layton (3-1) — The Lancers appear to be the best team right now in an extremely competitive Region 2.

4. Viewmont (3-1) — After opening the season with three consecutive wins, the Vikings fell short in a 1-0 decision against Layton.

5. Bingham (4-0) — With three shutout victories already, the Miners are using defense for a surprise appearance in the rankings.

Class 4A

1. Alta (2-1-1) — Down in classification, the Hawks are clearly the team to beat.

2. East (3-0-1) — The Leopards have had no problem scoring after tallying at least three goals in every game this year.

3. Provo (3-1) — Outmatched against Lone Peak, yes, but the Bulldogs will push Alta in Region 7.

4. Maple Mountain (3-1) — After three straight wins to open the year, the Golden Eagles fell flat against Orem. Fluke or trend?

5. Timpanogos (3-1-1) — The 'Wolves rebounded after their first loss of the year with a win against American Fork.

Class 3A

1. Juan Diego (5-0) — Already with three shutouts and a 19-2 goal ratio, this is a dangerous squad.

2. Dixie (2-2-1) – Two losses were against Alta and Maple Mountain, both of which are ranked in Class 4A.

3. Logan (3-1-1) — Tied Dixie and finally generated offense in win against Cedar.

4. Snow Canyon (2-3-1) — Don't let the record fool you into thinking otherwise of the Warriors. This team is good.

5. Desert Hills (6-0) — Extremely impressive start to the season, as the Thunder have outscored their opponents 43-2. However, strength of schedule is a major concern.

Class 2A

1. South Summit (4-0) — The Wildcats excelled on both ends of the pitch through the first four games of the year.

2. American Leadership (1-0-1) — Despite only two games to analyze, ALA is extremely talented.

3. Delta (2-1) — Blown out against Desert Hills, but responded with two quality wins against Beaver and Parowan.

4. Millard (2-0) — Back-to-back games scoring four goals has the Eagles in the rankings.

5. Layton Christian (3-1) — Only loss was against South Summit, but it was by a fairly wide margin.
