Class 5A football champion Herriman received the Army National Guard's national ranking trophy Wednesday during a winter sports assembly at the school.

The Mustangs finished ranked No. 59 in the final rankings as part of the 11th annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions. Herriman was one of the 50 schools being honored on this season's tour. MaxPreps ranks over 15,000 high school teams nationally.

Herriman finished the season ranked 11-3 and avenged a 30-0 regular-season drubbing at home against Lone Peak by rallying in the final minute of the state title game to knock off the unbeaten Knights 17-14 on November 20 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

MaxPreps ranks more than 15,000 varsity high school football teams.

The Tour of Champions also awards trophies to boys and girls basketball, volleyball and girls and boys soccer.

Herriman head football coach Dustin Pearce and athletic director Mont Widerburg accepted the award from MaxPreps regional representative Richelle Lund and Staff Sergeant Andrew Carroll of the Utah Army National Guard.

In other MaxPreps national news regarding Utah football players, Bingham defensive lineman Langi Tuifua was named second team all-American on the service's 2015 Junior All-American Team. He was the only Utah player on the list.
