Hillcrest football coach Travis Mehlhoff has resigned from his position after two season with the Huskies as his family prepares to relocate to Montana.

"My wife is the breadwinner of our family, and she got a job, so we're moving," Mehlhoff said.

Mehlhoff was 7-16 during his tenure, including guiding the Huskies to a 5-7 record in 2014 — the most single-season wins in the program since 2003.

"All of our kids bought in. The tradition at Hillcrest, the last decade, has been kind of tough," Mehlhoff said. "We made the playoffs for the first time in 10 years in my first year here. There were some good things that happened. We really tried to start a tradition, and I feel like the identity we've been able to establish is being more physical. It's building confidence and identity, and I think we've been able to [do that] the last few years."

Replacement candidates are unknown currently, with the job officially being posted this week. Mehlhoff has yet to explore coaching options in Montana, but said he would be interested.
