Park City football coach Mike Shepherd has resigned from his position after three seasons in his third stint atop the program, citing parental pressures as the reasoning behind his decision.

"It was something that festered last week out of the blue," Shepherd said. "I have no idea why, to be honest. No one ever spoke to me about any kind of complaints. I guess there was a secret society behind my back."

The Miners were 10-23 the past three seasons, but finished 5-6 this year in the 3AA classification. It appeared the rebuilding process, delayed from the debris left behind from the previous coaching staff, was beginning to generate results, which is why the resignation was unexpected. The remaining coaching staff, all of whom were brought in by Shepherd, are not expected to return to the program next season, too.

"People have expectations here, and you do the best you can. That's all you can do," Shepherd said. "My official comment about it is: I love the kids. I love coaching football, but the peripheral things that go along with the job, I just don't want to be a part of any longer.
