Region Nine dominated the first round of the Class 3A girls' soccer state tournament Wednesday as Desert Hills, Cedar City, Pine View and Snow Canyon all earned impressive wins.

Meanwhile in 2A, shutouts were the rule of the day with defending champion Rowland Hall, Millard, Delta, Maeser, Manti and Providence all blanking their opponents.

The day's biggest upset came in 2A where Delta earned a 1-0 win at Waterford. The Ravens came into the tournament ranked second after finishing second in state a year ago to Rowland Hall.

And in Class 3A, fourth-place Region Nine team Pine View went up the road to Cedar City to knock off Region 10 champion Canyon View in a 2-1 thriller.

Other Class 3A games saw Logan knocking off Tooele 2-1; Desert Hills blanking Richfield 13-0; Morgan edging Stansbury on the road 4-3; Cedar blanked Juab 7-0; Park City nipped Bear River 1-0; Juan Diego blasted Grantsville 10-0, and Snow Canyon beat North Sanpete 3-0.

In Class 2A action, American Leadership Academy bested Gunnison 6-1; Millard blanked Layton Christian 8-0; Rowland Hall blasted South Sevier 8-0; Summit Academy bested Grand 6-2; Maeser topped Emery 8-0; Manti eliminated Providence 7-0, and Parowan beat St. Joseph 8-0.

Both classes have quarterfinal games scheduled Friday. All games are at 1 p.m. Here is the schedule:
