The state of Utah entered the weekend with an 11-11 record against out-of-state opponents, but after Jordan fell 38-35 to Cherry Creek (Colo.) on Saturday afternoon — that record dropped to 13-14 overall.

The Bruins (4-0), which are ranked No. 1 in the state of Colorado, avenged their defeat against the Beetdiggers (4-1) in 2014 by fending off a furious rally in the final seconds. After leading 17-14 at halftime, Cherry Creek blossomed its advantage to 31-14 with two third-quarter touchdowns, but Jordan stormed back behind quarterback Drew Lisk, who pulled his team within three points with 2:58 remaining in regulation.

Jordan had Cherry Creek in a third-and-long scenario, but failed to contain a called-reverse with two minutes remaining, and when the Diggers finally stopped the Bruins on downs, it was too late.

REMEMBRANCE

Olympus players donned stickers with the initials "MM" on the back of their helmeting during a 43-0 win against Cyprus on homecoming night to honor former principal Mark Manning, who died of brain cancer on Sunday. The Olympus football Twitter account tweeted: "Mark Manning is synonymous with Olympus High. Our thoughts are with the Manning Family" before the game.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

— According to Utah prep football historian, George Felt, Milford's Jordan Hardy rushed for seven touchdowns in a win against Parowan. Hardy is the only the ninth player in state history to reach that mark and only the second since 1945.

— Alta's Josh Davis rushed for 372 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries and caught two balls for 67 yards and one score in a win against Orem. London Rockwood also corralled three interceptions, including returning one for a pick-six, for the Hawks.

— North Sanpete quarterback Zac Lee threw for six touchdowns and 327 yards as the Hawks painted 70 points on the board in a win against rival Delta.

— Timpview's Samson Nacua racked up 226 all-purpose yards in a win against Provo.

Tyson Doman corralled five receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns to propel Lone Peak past Riverton.

— Canyon View's Payton Higgins rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries in a victory against Manti.

— Bonneville's Kobe Beatty piled up 224 yards and four touchdowns on the ground in a win against Ogden.

Josh Vasquez recorded 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns to help Juan Diego earn a critical win against Morgan.

— Pleasant Grove quarterback Isaac Hamilton threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns in a win against Lehi.

— Murray's entire defensive unit forced five turnovers and blocked a field goal to beat Skyline for the first time in school history.

PROVING US WRONG

Phew! It might be impossible to describe the relief to be back to winning. After the porous effort from the entire Tribune prep team in the pick 'em segment of Week 4 — we proudly say we all returned to the lovely world of winning. I finished 6-1 this week, as did Tom Wharton. Brennan Smith was not too far behind with an overall 5-2 record. I owe one shout-out to Valor Christian of Colorado, which was the lone team to prove me wrong this week after beating East 26-10.

NEW AND IMPROVED

Timpanogos will unveil a new soccer scoreboard on Tuesday before its home game against Mountain View. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m.
