Alta midfielder Christian Bain has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com first-team all-American high school soccer team.

Bain led the Hawks to the 5A boys' title and a 19-1-1 season last spring. He scored eight goals and 13 assists. He is planning on going on a mission to Brazil for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saibnts and then playing for BYU's club team.

According to TopDrawerSoccer.com, picking the team required months of research and evaluation of the top soccer players in the country. The team was compiled by TDS senior high school editor Sheldon Shealer.

Bain was named The Salt Lake Tribune's most valuable soccer player.

"He reads the field really well and sees things many times that other players don't," said Alta coach Lee Mitchell, whose team won the title for the first time since 2011. "He has always been a positive influence on our team."

Brighton coach Tom Cushing whose team lost to Alta in the state title game this year, said Bain was tough to handle.

"He had such a great feel for his team and a great feel for the game in general," said Cushing. "Midfield play is kind of the key to winning soccer games. You want to keep the ball in the area of the field where you want it kept. Christian was always in the correct position."
