Mike Meifu was the catalyst in the backfield for arguably the most successful season in West Jordan football history. Ten years later, he'll lead the program in a much different capacity.

The Jaguars announced the hiring of Meifu on Thursday afternoon. He is the seventh coach in charge of the program since its inception in 1981. Meifu replaces Dan DuPaix, who guided the program to a 4-16 overall record in two seasons before resigning to pursue a career outside of football.

"I'm extremely excited," Meifu said. "It's something that, when you're a high school player and you dream about being a coach, coming back to your alma mater is definitely a dream come true for me."

Meifu led West Jordan in rushing during his senior season in 2005, finishing with 1,304 yards and 21 touchdowns on 220 carries, while leading the program to its first appearance in the Class 5A semifinals in school history.

He walked on at Snow College in 2006, and ultimately earned a starting position at fullback. He eventually coached the Badgers from 2009-13 before accepting a position as the run-game and recruiting coordinator and offensive line coach at Southern Virginia University.

"I think the players that have come through West Jordan over the years have always had a certain amount of talent," said Meifu, who will also teach in the physical education department. "It all comes down to the players, and whether or not they buy in and work as a team. I do know there is great talent in West Jordan."
