Any doubt that the 5A boys' soccer tournament would not pit evenly matched teams and regions was eliminated in Tuesday's first round games.

Six of the eight matches were decided by one goal. Only Lehi's 5-1 win over Viewmont and Alta's 4-1 victory over West were not close games.

Lehi's road win over traditional power Viewmont might have been the day's most impressive, though Davis' upset of Region Four champion Lone Peak was the day's biggest surprise.

Each of the four regions put two teams into Friday's quarterfinals, showing good parity.

Friday features some interesting match ups. The best sends defending champion Riverton to top-ranked Alta. Lehi will be at Region Two champion Hunter, Taylorsville travels to Region One top seed Layton and Davis is at Brighton.

All games are at 4 p.m.
