With current Utah High School Activities Association director Bart Thompson preparing to head the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, the Utah group that manages high school sports in the state has promoted two staffers and hired a new one.

Josh Taylor, who has been with the UHSAA since 2010 and has worked as its communications and technology director, was promoted to an assistant director. He will be director of soccer, speech and debate, while contuining to manage UHSAA.org, RegisterMyAthylete and Unified Sports.

Jeff Cluff, who has been the organization's supervisor of officials since 2014, will add baseball to his portfolio. He will continue his role as assigning officials to events throughout Utah.

The UHSAA hired Dave Vande Veegaete, who is also the athletic director for the Granite School District, to be the new director of wrestling. He will serve as the rules interpreter and state tournament director.

UHSAA executive director Rob Cuff praised Thompson's work.

"Bart has done an incredible job in our office building relationships and handling his duties as an assistant director," said Cuff. "Through his dedication and commitment to high school activities, he has prepared himself well for this leadership position with the NIAA."

Kim Monkres and Ryan Bishop will continue in their current assistant director roles for the UHSAA.
