Bountiful star Zac Seljaas has been named the Gatorade Utah Boys Basketball Player of the Year, a first for the Davis County school.

The award recognizes athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court.

Seljaas, who led the Braves to their second straight Class 4A title, is now a finalist for the 30th national player of the year, which will be announced in March.

The 6-foot-8 senior led the Braves to a 22-6 record, averaging 25.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.32 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He was an all-state selection as a junior. Seljaas also has a 3.74 grade point average and has volunteered to assist the elderly and helped coach youth basketball player.

"Seljaas is a great player," said Clearfield coach Curtis Hulse. "He was everything to his team. Whenever they needed a big shot, he would take it."

Seljaas will play at BYU.

Former winners of the award include Lone Peak's Nick Emery and Tyler Haws, West Jordan's Jordan Loveridge, and Provo's Kyle Collinsworth.
