Riverton's Hailey Skolmoski has been named the 2014-15 Gatorade Utah Soccer Player of the Year.

The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.

Skolmoski is the first Gatorade Utah Girls Soccer Player of the Year to be chosen from Riverton High.

The 5-foot-4 senior forward scored 28 goals and passed for 17 assists for the Silverwolves, who finished the season with a 13-4-1 record and a trip to the Class 5A state quarterfinals.

The three-time Class 5A first team all-state selection is a member of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Olympic Development Program team and participated in the high school soccer all-American game in December. She concluded her prep career with 59 goals.

The Riverton star has maintained a 4.0 grade point average, which ranks her first in her class of 648 students. She is also president of her church youth group, has volunteered locally as a peer tutor and youth member in addition to participating in multiple fundraising campaigns.

She has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer at the University of Utah starting this fall.

"Hailey changes every single game she plays in," said Caitlin Young, head coach at Westlake High. "She is a threat on the ball, with her distribution, and makes great runs to get the ball in dangerous situations."

Past Utah winners of the award include Alta's Bizzy Phillips, Alta's Michele Murphy, Brighton's Stephanie Verdoia, Bonneville's Jaiden Thronock, Alta's Kealia Ohai and Alta's Megan Ohai.
