Turns out Alema Te'o is not Alta's next football coach — yet.

Though Te'o seemingly confirmed rumors of his hiring initially Wednesday and again Thursday, Alta principal Brian McGill said Thursday that it was not quite a done deal.

"Nothing has been formalized or official as of right now," McGill said.

An offer has been extended to Te'o, but he has to complete the proper procedures in the Canyon School District hiring process, which includes passing a background check.

"If there were an issue with that, we'd be going a different direction," McGill said. "Anytime you have a potential candidate for hire, there are procedures — whether it's a teacher or a coach. You got to get everything solidified through the human resource department at the district. None of that has been completed yet."

Te'o, for all intents and purposes, will be the next head coach of the Hawks' program after the paperwork is finalized in the coming days.
