Salt Lake area prep basketball fans can enjoy a holiday tournament before region races begin to get serious.

Riverton and Juan Diego will be hosting the 14-team 2014 Holiday Tournament starting Saturday afternoon.

The first game of the traditional format four-day tournament sees Westlake meeting Provo at 10:15 a.m. at Riverton followed by Cyprus and El Toro, Calif,. At noon.

Other games begin at 1:45 Saturday when Alta meets Hunter at Riverton ; Lehi battles Skyline at Juan Diego at 1:45; Wasatch meets Kearns at 3:30 at Riverton, and Park City tests Spanish Fork at 5:15 at Riverton.

Hosts Riverton and Juan Diego took byes in the opening round.

Quarterfinal games are scheduled Monday with the semifinals on December 30 and the title game at Riverton at 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Eighty-four games will be played in four days.

Top teams participating include 7-0 Lehi and star Tanner Nygren; 7-1 Park City and high scorting Bosten Van Der Veur; El Toro, Calif., which has won seven titles since 2000 in the South Coast League; 4-2 Riverton, 6-2 Juan Diego, and 4-1 Kearns.
