Just as Utah high school football ends, basketball is starting.

Eight girls' varsity, junior varsity and sophomore basketball teams will be participating in the "Charger Tourney" at Corner Canyon High School Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

According to organizer Rob Geersten, the top returning team is Mountain View, which finished with an 18-4 record and went to the Class 4A semifinals. On the other end of the spectrum, Corner Canyon went 0-20 in its first season of play and is still looking for its first varsity victory.

The tournament is being run as a round-robin with all games pre-determined. Varsity games will be played in the main gym while junior varsity and sophomore games will be held in the auxiliary gym.

Varsity games Thursday see Hillcrest playing East at 3:15, Mountain View meeting West at 4:55, Kearns battling Herriman at 6:35 and Corner Canyon hosting Jordan at 8:15.
