Bingham continues to be Utah's only national recognized football team by pollsters, while the MaxPreps preseason basketball poll has Lone Peak among the country's top 50 teams.
Bingham is tied for 11th in the latest MaxPreps composite football rankings. The Miners, who meet Herriman in Friday's Class 5A quarterfinals, are ranked as the ninth-best team in the country by USA Today, 11th by PrepNation, 14th in MaxPreps Xcellent 25 and 40th in the MaxPreps computer rankings.
Utah's top five football teams in MaxPreps rankings include, in order, Bingham, Brighton, Timpview, American Fork and Riverton.
As for basketball, four-time defending 5A champion Lone Peak didn't make the MaxPreps preseason top 25, but is listed as Utah's top team and mentioned among the top 50 teams in the U.S.
