California quarterback Davis Webb got a head start, opening the 2016 season Friday in Australia. It may take a while until any Pac-12 quarterback tops his statistics. In a 51-31 win over Hawaii, Webb completed 38 of 54 passes for 441 yards and four touchdowns. And he obviously has found a dependable receiver, answering one of the Bears' preseason questions. Chad Hansen caught 14 passes for 160 yards and two scores.  Cal gets a week off before its nonconference schedule becomes more challenging, with a trip to Mountain West defending champion San Diego State on Sept. 10, followed by Texas' visit to Berkeley.  – Kurt Kragthorpe
