Oregon finished a disappointing sixth in the Pac-12 men's golf tournament in Salt Lake City in early May, and then the Ducks won the NCAA championship Wednesday.  Oregon's title followed Washington's victory in the NCAA women's event last week, giving the Pac-12 a golf title sweep in 2016.  It helped that the Ducks were playing their home course, Eugene Country Club, but it took a remarkable performance through four rounds of stroke play and three rounds of match play – including three extra holes in the deciding match – for Oregon to earn its first national title in golf. Outside of track and field, Oregon's only other championship came in the NCAA men's basketball tournament in 1939.  Oregon's 3-2 victory over Texas in the final match was aided by an injury to Texas' Beau Hossler, resulting in a forfeited point. But the Ducks battled to victories in two other matches, with Eugene native Sulman Raza going 21 holes to edge Taylor Funk in a dramatic finish for the team title.  Oregon sophomore Aaron Wise won the 72-hole individual competition and now intends to turn pro.  – Kurt Kragthorpe
