Rio de Janeiro – Mainly because he did not appear in any games, Elder Torres of the Real Monarchs became somewhat overlooked in our Utah-focused coverage of the Olympics.  Torres, a member of the Honduras soccer team, was in position Saturday to earn the first Utah-connected medal of the Games, with his team playing Nigeria for the bronze. It didn't happen, although Honduras made a comeback after being three goals down in an eventual 3-2 loss.  The game was played in Belo Horizonte, about 200 miles from Rio.  Torres' fourth-place finish means the search for any 2016 medalist with Utah ties will come down to the final day. BYU alumnus Taylor Sander and the USA men's volleyball team will play Russia for the bronze Sunday morning and the Jazz's Joe Ingles and former University of Utah center Andrew Bogut of Australia men's basketball will meet Spain for the bronze. Starting in 1964, Utah has claimed ties to one or more medalists in every Summer Games.  – Kurt Kragthorpe
