George Hill won't play tonight against the Golden State Warriors, or tomorrow night vs. the Sacramento Kings. And he probably won't play on Friday when the Toronto Raptors come to Vivint Smart Home Arena.

But Tuesday's shootaround in San Francisco — the team worked out in a health club gym adjacent to their hotel — provided clear evidence that the Utah Jazz point guard is making progress and is approaching a return from the sprained toe that's sidelined him for almost a month.

Hill's workout with Jazz assistant coach Igor Kokoskov was intense and extensive, designed to push Hill, make him shoot the ball from different positions. Hill was made to do dribble combinations, attack closeouts on the dribble, dribble into shots and make shots from different spots on the floor.

It's a clear sign of progress from where he's been previously. And the fact that Hill can now leave the floor on his shots, instead of shooting flat-footed is a sign that the toe is getting better.

There still isn't a timetable for Hill's return. But the Jazz are hoping he's back by next week, or by the Jazz's east coast trip next month at the latest.

Utah has been torrid of late, winning 11 of their last 13. The Jazz's 18-10 record is good enough for fifth place in the Western Conference.

The success has allowed Utah to make sure Hill is 100 percent healthy and to not rush him back to the lineup. At the same time, the Jazz are anxious to see what the team looks like whole. And with Hill back, shooting guard Alec Burks becomes the last missing piece.

Favors out tonight

Derrick Favors will miss tonight's game against the Warriors, but it is only precautionary. The Jazz power forward is expected to be back in the lineup on Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings. There is nothing amiss with Favors, who recently came back from a knee contusion. The Jazz just want him to rest and be fresh for the tail end of a back-to-back.

"With him being on the minutes restriction, we just don't want to push it," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said.

Favors has gotten steadily better since his return. He blocked four shots in Sunday's win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
