Here are three things you need to know as the Jazz prepare to play the Phoenix Suns tonight at Vivint Smart Home Arena;

1. Some good news for the Jazz on Gordon Hayward, as he won't need surgery on his broken finger, league sources tell The Tribune. Surgery was initially on the table as an option, but the feeling is that the finger can heal fine as is with rehab and evaluation.

2. The injuries to the Jazz are plentiful. Hayward, Rodney Hood, Derrick Favors and Alec Burks are all on the shelf. In shootaround this morning, Jazz coach Quin Snyder said Hood's situation — a sprained left hand — is strictly precautionary. Favors has an IT band injury, which commonly afflicts runners and marathoners. Hayward's broken finger and Burks' absence are considered rehabilitation injuries.

"Hopefully some of these injuries dissipate," Snyder said. "More than anything, we've said let's just be a good defensive team, even with all the injuries, and the offense will take care of itself. We've got some guys that know who they are and how they play."

3. With Hood out, Dante Exum will receive his second consecutive start. Last week, in 13 minutes of action against Phoenix, Exum was spectacular defensively against Phoenix star shooting guard Devin Booker. Booker was 1 of 3 from the field with Exum as his primary defender. On Monday, Exum made the game-winning defensive stop against Los Angeles Clippers guard Jamal Crawford. Even as Exum's offense has a long way to go, he's been Utah's best perimeter defender during the preseason.

"I think Booker's going to be aggressive tonight, and pretty much all the time," Snyder said. "I know Dante works defensively. Devin could come out and have a big night. My feeling is that Dante's a solid defender and if Devin plays better offense than Dante plays defense, it's just one of those things."
