Memphis • Quin Snyder couldn't hold in his frustration. The Utah Jazz coach couldn't quite hold onto the ball, either. Frustrated by a turnover, a bad pass from Rudy Gobert that wound up in Snyder's hands on the sideline, the coach bounced the ball hard against the floor during the second half of last night's games. Unfortunately for Snyder, the ball slipped out of his hands, exaggerating the moment and causing referee Ed Malloy, after a brief pause, to whistle for a technical foul. "Everybody always likes it when I get emotional," Snyder said with a chuckle after the game. "I didn't want us to turn it over. That was the long and short of it. I told Book maybe if I had caught the ball I would have got away with it." • The Grizzlies were missing Zach Randolph (illness), Tony Allen (suspension), Beno Udrih (illness) and Vince Carter (injury). Gordon Hayward doesn't feel bad about it either. "For us, I don't think it takes anything away," he said. "Those are two great players (Randolph and Allen) for them. Obviously impact players that make a difference. They are not the same team and I think we knew that going in it was going to be more with Marc Gasol and Courtney Lee picking up the slack a little bit tonight. Mike Conley was going to be aggressive. I think it changes your preparation a little bit, but I don't think it takes away the win for us." • Rudy Gobert had a monster night, 15 points and 24 rebounds.  • The Salute.  • It was a rare night without a block for Gobert, who spent a good chunk of time dealing with Gasol away from the basket. Derrick Favors, meanwhile, finished with three blocks. • Hayward got things going in the second half with six straight points for his team. "The easy layup got me going," he said. "Favors made a nice read, a nice pass and I saw the ball go in. Sometimes that is all you need. I saw that one go in, stayed aggressive and was able to knock down some shots." • Final words go to Memphis coach Dave Joerger: "It was a tough night for us. I was encouraged. I thought that was the hardest we've played. It's going to come for us. The ball will start falling for us. We got 52 shots in the paint which was excellent. We missed a couple free throws, had a couple defensive breakdowns in the second half, had some untimely turnovers that hurt us, and Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors were excellent in the second half. I thought individually they just rose up and they were tremendous. Obviously the big kid, (Rudy) Gobert, I think is going to be very, very good. I think he's a good player. They were good. They are a good team, a good young team. They play with a lot of energy. I'm not disappointed in our effort at all. Ball didn't go in which is kind of just the way we are right now. Defensively, I thought our defensive end was out on the field a long time. We put a lot of pressure on our defense, just struggling to put the basketball in the hole." — Aaron Falk
