Jazz forward Derrick Favors will not play in tonight's preseason finale against the Phoenix Suns because of soreness in his left knee.

Favors went through the team's shootaround this morning, but the team was concerned enough to keep him out of action tonight.

"[Trainer Gary Briggs] called me and told me he had a little swelling and they wanted to make sure he was OK, and it's a preseason game so lets' hold him out," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said.

The coach did not know the extent of his starting forward's injury when he spoke with reporters about 90 minutes prior to tipoff.

Would Favors have started if it were a regular season game?

"I couldn't say that," Snyder said. "I'm not sure. We haven't even had that specific of a discussion."

In Favors' place, the Jazz will start forward Trevor Booker.

"Really you could roll the dice," Snyder said of deciding on a replacement. "We could start Rudy [Gobert] and push Enes to the four … but then we're coming off the bench with our rotations a little different. We don't have a five coming off the bench. Rudy's been great coming in in that role. So it fits at least with the way we've been substituting right now."

Booker has had a solid preseason as the team's sixth man, averaging 6 points and 3.3 rebounds a game. The free agent signing from Washington does have some experience as a starter. Last season for the Wizards, he filled in for injured big man Nene.

Because of Favors' absence, tonight will be a chance for the Jazz to get a closer look at some other players and combinations.

Of course, the Jazz want to see Favors (13.4 points, 8.8 rebounds) back as soon as possible, with the season opener just days away.

"Derrick's been an anchor," Snyder said. "He's been great. … So hopefully everything will be fine."
