Website ranks Salt Lake City, Provo among most livable in country

Maybe it was The Onion's tourism campaign.

You know, the one about how everyone is free to leave Salt Lake City.

Yeah, that's got to be it.

At least that's one possible explanation for how Salt Lake City dropped from No. 8 to No. 17 in the website livability.com's annual ranking of the top 100 small and medium sized cities.

Salt Lake City was recognized for its beautiful scenery and residents' engagement.

Provo also saw its stock drop, falling from No. 17 last year to No. 35 this year.

The rankings touted the Utah County city's "diverse arts and culture scene."

The top-ranked city was Madison, Wis.

The rankings were based on the following criteria: amenities, demographics, economy, education, health care, housing, transportation and social and civil capital.
