Saturday is National Trails Day — a day for hikers, bikers and anyone who loves a stroll outside to celebrate and help maintain trails.

Here is a list of National Trails Day events across Utah. Click on the hyperlinks to learn more about each event. More information about some of the events can also be found at http://www.nationaltrailsday.americanhiking.org.

Anyone planning to attend an event should bring water, a hat and sunscreen. For events with trail maintenance, also bring long pants and long sleeves and, if possible, hand tools such as hoes, shovels and pruning shears.

Aspen Grove Trailhead near Provo, 9 a.m. • The U.S. Forest Service will perform drainage and trail maintenance on the Stewart Falls and Mount Timpanogos trails. RSVP by calling Jentry Nelson at 801-796-4886. The trailhead is 2.5 miles northwest of Sundance Ski Resort on State Road 92.

Big Spring Hollow Trail in Provo, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. • The 2.2-mile hike on a dirt trail will be geared toward kids. Bring a carrier or a stroller in case your young hikers tire. To reach the trailhead from Provo Canyon Road, turn east onto South Fork Road and follow it for 3.3 miles. Then turn right to reach Big Spring Hollow.

Cottonwood Heights, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. • The Bonneville Shoreline Trail Committee will lead volunteers in improving trails and removing trash and invasive weeds from Heughs Canyon to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Volunteers can meet at the park-and-ride spot at 6200 S. Wasatch Blvd. Volunteers need to register by calling 801-466-6411 or emailing volunteer@cottonwoodcanyons.org.

Duck Creek Village, 2 to 4 p.m. • Take an exploratory hike on the Cascade Falls Trail on the Dixie National Forest. It is 0.9 miles roundtrip. Meet at the Forest Service's Duck Creek Visitor Center, 28 miles east of Cedar City on State Road 14.

Kanab • At 8 a.m. at the Cottonwood Trailhead is a ribbon-cutting event for the extension of the trail. At 8:30 a.m. at the Brave Trailhead is the ribbon-cutting event for that trail. From 9 a.m. to noon at the Kane County Tourism Office, 78 S. 100 East, there will be information booths for public land agencies and other community organizations. At 7 p.m. is a family hike on the Brave Trail.

Logan • From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Merlin Olsen Central Park, 300 E. Center, the Forest Service's Logan Ranger District will host a booth in partnership with Stokes Nature Center and the Logan Canyon Children's Forest to introduce the new Logan Canyon Children's Forest Interpretive Association. The site will host Children's Forest activities and trail runs.

Mercer Hollow Trailhead in Draper, 8:30 a.m. to noon • Corner Canyon Trails Foundation will finish work on the new Mercer Hollow Trail. The trailhead is on the east side of Suncrest Drive, a few hundred yards south of the Suncrest LDS Stake Center, 14919 S. Eagle Crest Drive.

Providence, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. • The Trails Cache and the Forest Service are repairing and enhancing trails near the Providence Canyon parking lot. Volunteers are asked to register at http://goo.gl/forms/btPQbwdGTd.

Run-a-Muk Trailhead in Park City, 8:30 a.m. to noon • Volunteers will be building a new hiking trail at the trailhead, south of Olympic Parkway and north of Bear Cub Drive. Volunteers are asked to leave their dogs at home.

Temple Quarry Path in Sandy, 10 to 11 a.m. • This 1-mile hike on a paved path in Little Cottonwood Canyon will be geared toward kids. Bring a carrier or a stroller in case your young hikers tire. The trailhead is near the intersection of North Little Cottonwood Canyon Road and East Little Cottonwood Canyon Road.

Wasatch Mountain State Park in Midway, 9 a.m. 1 p.m. • The project beings at 9 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new WOW Trail. Then there will be a service project of installing new trail signs on the three trails that converge at the Phosphate Trail Head parking lot. The park is at 1281 Warm Springs Road.
