The St. George portion of the 10th annual National Get Outdoors Day will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tuacahn Outdoor Amphitheater.

The free event, sponsored by the Dixie Arizona Strip Interpretive Association with partnering land management agencies, encourages healthy, active outdoor fun.

Sponsors say the primary goals of the event are to reach first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting youth to the outdoors.

The event will include a mix of information centers and active fun centers where participants can see desert tortoises, learn outdoor survival skills, experience the heavens with a sun telescope and learn about public lands in the region.

Smokey Bear and Seymore Antelope will be on hand.

This is one of 171 official such events scheduled throughout the United States.
