Kanab will host the 15th annual Greyhound Gathering on May 18-21.

More than 250 rescued greyhounds, along with their families, will gather for what is billed as the largest event of its kind in the Western U.S.

Claudia Presto, founder of Kanab's Greyhound Gang and the event's organizer, said that greyhounds are known for their racing prowess and the resulting abuse when they can no longer earn money, although historically they've been treated as treasured family members, including loyal companions to royalty.

Events include a Center Street parade to the sounds of "Who Let the Dogs Out," featuring hundreds of costumed humans and hounds; a "Blur of Fur," where greyhounds chase their humans down a strip of grass, while being clocked with radar guns; music on Main Street; Yappy Hour; painting and art classes; hikes; speakers; food; and tours of the nearby Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. There will also be live and silent auctions of more than 700 items to raise funds for greyhounds.
