If learning about owls sounds like a hoot, you might want to consider visiting the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge west of Brigham City on January 14.

That's when the refuge will hold its annual Owl Day.

Owls reside at the refuge year-round, but can be difficult to see in the wild, largely because they are nocturnal and camouflage well into their surroundings.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a live owl meet and greet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. with experts from the Ogden Nature Center bringing a captive owl.

Other activities include dissecting owl pellets, making an own craft, owl masks, owl story time, face painting and owl displays. There will also be screenings of owl-themed documentaries throughout the day.

The free event is sponsored by the Friends of Bear River Refuge.

The Wildlife Education Center is located one block west of Interstate 15 Exit 363. In January, it is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
