Ever want to view bald eagles and their baby eaglets up close and personal?

The Division of Wildlife Resources will host field trips Thursday, Saturday and Monday to do just that.

To participate, meet at the Department of Natural Resources at 1594 W. North Temple at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Saturday and 7 p.m. on Monday.

From the building, participants will follow DWR watchable wildlife coordinator for the DWR, to the viewing site near the southeastern shore of the Great Salt Lake.

Field trips are free, but reservations are required. To reserve a spot, call Walters at 801-209-5326.

Walters will provide spotting scopes and binoculars, but participants are asked to bring their own if they have them. Also bring mosquito spray, sunscreen and water.

Utah Governor Gary Herbert has declared Monday American Bald Eagle Day in Utah.

During the field trips, visitors should see the eaglets prepare to fly for the first time or dancing on the nest.

Walters said this is one of at least 22 other active bald eagle nest sites. The eagles have been nesting at the field trip site since 1996, and have raised 42 eaglets at the site.
