Add Washington County to a long list of Utah venues celebrating National Get Outdoors Day Saturday.

The Dixie Arizona Strip Interpretive Association will host a free event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tuacahn Outdoor Amphitheater Plaza in Ivins.

The event will offer a mix of information centers and active fun areas where guests and especially kids can see desert tortoises, learn outdoor survival kids, experience the heavens with a sun telescope and find lots of information about public lands in the area.

Smokey Bear and Seymore Antelope will be available for photos.

According to the Bureau of Land Management, the pilot effort of National Get Outdoors Day was launched on June 14, 2008 and has grown every year. The idea is to get lore Americans, especially children, connected with the outdoors.
