The Hyperion Theater at California Adventure Park in Anaheim, Calif., will be moving from the desert-themed Aladdin production to the much colder Frozen experience May 27.

"Frozen — Live at the Hyperion" will replace Aladdin and opens May 27. It is a new musical based on the blockbuster film. Aladdin ran for 13 years with 14,000 performances before 13 million park guests at the 1,873-seat theater.

According to Disney, audiences will be immersed in the emotional journey of Anna and Elsa with all the excitement of live theater in a production that includes elaborate costumes and sets, special effects and theatrical surprises.

"While our production of Frozen will stay true to the heart and soul of the film, we have adapted it for the stage so it's truly a musical theatre production that befits our beautiful Hyperion Theater," said Dana Harrel, creative entertainment executive with Walt Disney Imagineering. "The goal of this creative team is to take all audiences, including those that know the film and those new to these characters, on this exciting and touching adventure with Anna and Elsa."

The interior of the theater will be transformed into a Frozen theme. Large set elements will move the action in a cinematic way, and will use state-of-the-art projections. Snow will fall throughout the interior of the theater. New projections, fabrics and special effects will be employed.

This will be different from an entirely separate Broadway production of Frozen, which is scheduled to open in New York in 2018 with previews in Denver starting in the summer of 2017.
