On-line registration for the 18th annual Great Salt Lake Bird Festival field trips and the Dutch oven dinner will open Monday at 9 a.m. at http://www.GreatSaltLakeBirdFest.com.

The event is scheduled May 12 to May 16.

The complete program of field trips including behind-the-gate trips, workshops, vendors and youth activities is found on the website.

Author and artist Julie Zickefoose is the keynote speaker and James Currie from Nikon's Birding Adventure TV is the special guest. Both will co-lead field trips, offer a workshop and give special presentations.

The festival will take birders of all skill levels to locations in seven counties in northern Utah. Birding by car, van, bus, horseback and canoe are all available.

All public school students in Utah through grade 12 are also invited to create a picture of a Spotted Towhee, the spotlight bird for 2017.
