The National Park Service has expanded the number of fee free days in parks throughout the system in 2016 to celebrate its centennial year.

The first of those fee free days is January 18, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.

Other fee free days in 2016 include National Park Week from April 16 to April 24, National Park Service Birthday Weekend from August 25 through August 28, National Public Lands Day September 24 and Veterans Day on November 11.

Park visitors are reminded that the fee free demonstration applies to entrance fees only and does not affect fees for camping, reservations, tours or other special uses.

The fee free days are designed as a way to encourage people to get outdoors and spend time with their friends and family in the national parks.
