Several Audubon groups will be bringing in the new year Friday with bird counts.

The Christmas Bird Count is a program of the National Audubon Society where thousands of volunteers across the United States. Canada and many countries in the Western hemisphere go out over a 24-hour period on one calendar day to count birds.

Great Salt Lake Audubon is sponsoring its annual January 1st Jordan River Christmas Bird Count Friday.

Participants should meet at 7 a.m. for breakfast and team assignments at Kneaders Bakery and Cafe, 177 E. 13800 South in Draper.

The team reports and count tally will begin at 6 p.m. at the Sizzler on 9000 S. State.

According to Billy Fenimore, another count Friday is scheduled at Antelope Island. The group is meeting in the parking lot located just south of the causeway entrance to Antelope Island at 8 a.m. Group members will be broken up into three different segments.
