Some families make going outdoors and cutting a tree part of their Christmas tradition.

Permits to cut trees in the Heber City and Kamas areas on Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest lands will be on sale Friday and Saturday at the Soldier Hollow Lodge at 2002 Olympic Drive in Midway.

Non-transferrable wristbands will be issued to the first 1,000 individuals starting at 6 a.m. both days. Those who get a wristband must purchase their tree permit in person on the same day they receive their wristband, from 8 a.m. until noon.

Permits cost $10 and are for personal use only. One permit per adult with a valid driver's license will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, only on Friday and Saturday.

Permit holders can cut subalpine fir trees 20 feet tall or shorter until December 24. All trees must be tagged prior to transport.
