More than 1,000 amateur triathletes from 40 states will descend on Ogden and the Snowbasin Resort Saturday and Sunday for the XTERRA National Championships.

The off-road tri Nationals are scheduled Saturday with full and half-distance XTERRA Utah races open to everyone. The XTERRA Trail Run Nationals half-marathon is scheduled Sunday and also includes a 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer trail run. Both events are being filmed nationally.

The long distance triathlon includes a 1,500-meter swim in Pineview Reservoir, a 28-kilometer mountain race and a 10-kilometer trail run.

The shorter run includes a 750 meter swim, a 19-kilometer mountain bike run and a five-kilometer run.

In addition to the races, organizers ay there will be an expo and the 14th annual Harvest Moon Celebration in downtown Ogden. Events include free kids races, vendor booths, a Paul Mitchell hair cut-a-thin for charity, evening dinner parties, live music and other kids activities.

"We love bringing the XTERRA Tribe together in Utah," said Janet Clark, president of XTERRA. "The energy level is off the chart. Ogden and Snowbasin are simply the best between the facilities at Snowbasin, the great restaurants and atmosphere along Historic 25th Street in Ogden, the Harvest Moon Celebration, and the nub believably supportive community. We can't ask for a better venue."

The USA Championship off-road triathlon is an invite only race, the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship is open to the public.

Both events finish at Snowbasin.
