Here's what's being talked about in pop culture:

• Rocker Chris Cornell — whose wailing voice defined the grunge generation through his work in Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog — was found dead in a Detroit hotel this morning, after performing a concert in the Motor City. He was 52. [The Washington Post]

• Roger Ailes, the former head of Fox News who was forced into retirement by a sexual-harassment scandal, died this morning at 77. After a career as a political consultant to Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, Ailes founded Fox News in 1996 and made it a juggernaut of right-wing spin. [The Daily Beast]

• The first trailer for "Star Trek: Discovery," the first TV series from the franchise in 16 years, has landed. Live long and prosper. [Entertainment Weekly]
