Here's what's being talked about in pop culture:

• The animated "The Boss Baby" overtook "Beauty and the Beast" to win the weekend box office, taking in $49 million. The much-hyped, and controversial, "Ghost in the Shell" underperformed with a $19 million haul. [Box Office Mojo]

• Jason Aldean took Entertainer of the Year honors at the ACM Awards last night, and Miranda Lambert won two top prizes. But the highlight for viewers was the mashup performance between Florida Georgia Line and the Backstreet Boys. [Rolling Stone]

• A milestone of sorts for representation on screen: The new companion on "Doctor Who," Bill Potts (played by newcomer Pearl Mackie) will be openly gay — the first permanent companion in the show's history to be LGBT. (The omnisexual Capt. Jack Harkness wasn't a permanent companion.) [BBC News]
