Utah's Ice Castles will return for another winter — but not until after Christmas.

Brett Christensen, the artist responsible for the walkable frozen sculpture, aims to open to the public, weather permitting, on Dec. 26 in Midway.

Christensen's company reports that tens of thousands of people have visited the Midway location every winter since it launched in 2011, walking around the massive ice spires.

Artists spend some 4,000 staff-hours dripping and shaping icicles while embedding the color-changing LED lights to create a visual spectacle. The Midway location is one of five Christensen has established in North America — the others are in Lincoln, N.H.; Stillwater, Minn.; Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; and Edmonton, Alberta.

Details on the opening will be forthcoming.
