An old theater is getting new life in Holladay.

The Larry H. Miller Group's Megaplex Theatres plans to open a luxury six-screen theater complex in the location of the old Water Gardens Theatres, at 1945 E. Murray-Holladay Road, the company announced Friday. The new multiplex, called the Larry H. Miller Megaplex Luxury Theatres at Cottonwood, is set to open sometime next spring.

The new first-run theater will boast digital projection and sound, heated power recliners, private meeting and event space, D-Box seats, gourmet food and Coca-Cola Freestyle machines.

Construction will take about four months, the company announced. All eligible former Water Gardens employees will be offered jobs at the new theater, and additional employees will be hired.

The theater opened in 1988 under the Cineplex Odeon chain. When Loews Cineplex went through bankruptcy protection, the theater closed — reopening later that year under the Westates Theaters banner. The theater was taken over in 2012 by the Water Gardens chain, which operated it until last month.

The Holladay theater complex will be the 17th location in the Megaplex chain, in Utah and southern Nevada.
